In 2006, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy, tram-flap reconstruction and complete hysterectomy. Thankfully I’m doing great!

My cancer came as little surprise since I always considered myself as “the bulls eye on the target”. Both of my sisters, my maternal grandmother and even my father were diagnosed with breast cancer. My father subsequently died from it. So, I’m sure you can understand why I have such a deep, personal ”vendetta” for doing whatever possible to help wipe out this virulent killer! It is this zeal, coupled with my love of tennis, from which the Game Set, Cure! Foundation began.

Last year, in the first annual Game, Set, Cure! Tennis Tournament, more than 100 women helped raise $24,000… all in just one morning. Now it gives me extra pride to announce the second annual Game, Set, Cure! Tennis Tournament to take place February 13th & 14th, 2009, at Crandon Park Tennis Center. Home of The Sony Ericsson, one of the world’s most prestigious tennis tournaments. Working in conjunction with the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Miami-Dade Department of Parks and Recreation and the Crandon Park Tennis Center. This year’s event will feature friendly, competitive tennis as well as breast cancer education – all amidst the tranquil, tropical backdrop of Key Biscayne.

The support of the local tennis community has been overwhelming! Of course, money is the key to finding a cure. To ensure the success of this event, you and your company’s help are urgently needed! These are tough economic times, but breast cancer doesn’t care. Therefore, whatever you can do to donate to this year’s tournament makes your contribution an even bigger blessing.

The Game Set, Cure! and Susan G. Komen Foundations have a working plan of action and are committed to ensuring that all proceeds will remain within our local community, for those breast cancer patients in need due.
